Physical & Chemical Properties of Peppermint Essential Oil:
Extracted by Steam distillation of the herb
Colorless to pale yellow liquid
Strong minty aroma
Menthol: 48.9 % by g.c.
Menthone: 25.2 % by g.c.
Menthofurane: 5.1 % by g.c.
Menthyl Acetate: 8.3 % by g.c.
Contents: Menthol, menthone, menthyl acetate, neomenthol, menthofurane, pulegone, isomenthone and traces of 1,8-cineol, piperitone, linalool, limonene, ?-caryophyllene, ?-caryophyllene epoxide, camphene, jasmone (imporves oil quality), a-pinene, ?-pinene, germacrene D, and ?-hexenyl phenylacetate.
